In today's high speed society, support workers who have the ability to fix computers and networks, and offer constant advice to users, are hugely valuable in all areas of industry. Whereupon we become progressively beholden to technology, we in turn inevitably become more reliant on the skilled and qualified IT networkers, who maintain those systems.

Most of us would love to think that our careers will always be secure and our future is protected, but the likely scenario for most jobs in the UK at the moment seems to be that the marketplace is far from secure. But a fast growing sector, where staff are in constant demand (through an enormous shortage of commercially certified professionals), provides a market for lasting job security.

Reviewing the IT industry, the most recent e-Skills investigation brought to light a more than 26 percent skills deficit. To put it another way, this highlights that Great Britain can only locate three qualified staff for every 4 jobs in existence now. This one idea on its own shows why the United Kingdom requires many more new trainees to join the industry. Because the IT sector is increasing at such a speed, there really isn't any other area of industry worth considering as a retraining vehicle.

A service that many training companies provide is job placement assistance. The service is put in place to steer you into your first IT role. Because of the huge demand for appropriately skilled people in the UK right now, it's not too important to place too much emphasis on this feature however. It isn't such a complex operation to get the right work as long as you're correctly trained and certified.

Help with your CV and interview techniques might be provided (if not, see one of our sites for help). Ensure you work on your old CV today - don't leave it till you pass the exams! You may not have got to the stage where you've taken your exams when you'll secure your initial junior support job; however this isn't going to happen unless your CV is with employers. Actually, a local IT focused employment service (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) will perform better than any recruitment division from a training organisation. In addition, they will no doubt be familiar with the area and local employers better.

Various students, it seems, put a great deal of effort into their studies (for years sometimes), and just give up when it comes to attempting to secure their first job. Introduce yourself... Make an effort to get in front of employers. Don't expect a job to just fall into your lap.
