CompTIA A+ consists of 2 training sections; you're seen as an achiever in A+ when you've achieved certifications for both of these areas. Training courses in A+ are about fault finding and diagnosing - via hands on and remote access, alongside building computers and repairing them and having knowledge of antistatic conditions. If you're considering being the kind of individual who is involved with a big team - in network support, you should include CompTIA Network+ to your training package, or follow the Microsoft route - MCP's, MCSA or MCSE as you'll need a more advanced experience of the way networks work.

It would be wonderful to believe that our jobs will always be secure and our work prospects are protected, but the growing reality for the majority of jobs around England at the moment seems to be that there is no security anymore. We could however reveal security at the market sector level, by probing for areas that have high demand, tied with a lack of qualified workers.

If you identify with this, go for more modern interactive training, with on-screen demonstrations and labs. Research into the way we learn shows that we remember much more when we use all our senses, and we get physically involved with the study process.

Learning is now available via DVD-ROM discs, so you can study at your own computer. Through video streaming, you are able to see your instructors showing you how to do something, and then have a go at it yourself - with interactive lab sessions. It's imperative to see courseware examples from the company you're considering. You'll want to see that they include video demo's and interactive elements such as practice lab's.

Many companies provide training that is purely available online; and although this is okay the majority of the time, think what will happen if internet access is lost or you get a slow connection speed. It's preferable to have CD and DVD ROM materials which will not have these problems.
